Nerja is located in the eastern part of the Axarquia, about 51 kms from Malaga and bordering the province of Granada. It is the easternmost town in the region of Axarquia. This is a fishing village and a farmer with Arab roots. The earliest known traces of human presence in these lands date back Upper Paleolithic and were found at Cueva de Nerja. Today has an official population of over 22,000.
