Coin is a town belonging to the Guadalhorce valley, just 30kms from the capital of the province of Malaga, and also near the coastal area, about 28kms. The town's economy has been traditionally based on agriculture, especially the cultivation of citrus fruits: lemons, oranges and tangerines. To a lesser extent also important traditional pottery and rural tourism.
The first traces of Coin paracer placed in the Paleolithic. Have also been found archaeological remains in the region belonging to the Copper Age and Bronze. These remains have been found mainly in deposits of Cerro de Carranque and Llano de la Virgen. The founding of the city as we know it today occurred during mulsumana domination of the Iberian Peninsula around the year 920. During this period, strengthens the structure of the village of Coin. This occupation lasted 5 centuries thus leaving a large footprint in the region. The reconquest of Ferdinand and Isabella in the city occurred in 1485. The eighteenth and nineteenth centuries are characterized by few changes in the city. Already in the twentieth century produced profound changes following the arrival of the railroad, causing an acceleration in the economy of the region.
