Carratraca is located north of the province of Malaga in the region of Guadalteba in the Guadalhorce Valley, in the Sierra Blanquilla, part of the Serrania de Ronda. The region is composed of the following municipalities: Almargen, Ardales, Campillos, Cañete la Real, Carratraca, Cuevas del Becerro, Sierra de Yeguas and Teba. Remains have been found to confirm the presence of man in this area in the Neolithic. Among them, ceramics, paintings and even some burials. Carratraca is water and health. Already in Roman times was known about the characteristics of their sources. From this period are preserved stone 4 bathrooms. Anyway, the birth of the town as we know it today dates from the nineteenth century as a result of the extension of Water balnerario Hediondas. The crowd of people who came to enjoy the healing water caused the expansion of the resort in 1847. This influx of people resulted in a benefit to the economy of the area. Even today remains the biggest attraction in town. It is worth noting the figure of Trinidad Grund, Malaga lady who belonged to the gentry of the nineteenth century, who built a palace in the village and was the pioneer of tourism in Carratra.
